(BTW - I did enjoy the detour there! Plus, as an English speaker, it's always helpful to hear feedback per how to communicate better with those around the world!)

A huge thanks, Grant. To answer your questions:

 1) I'm in Boston, MA. Any chance you're local as well?

 2) EPROM/SRAM - That's a huge help. Are you saying either 27128A or 27C128 would work? Per the SRAM, I couldn't specifically find Yamaha DX7 SRAM available online, but I did find LH5116, LH5116-10, and LH5116NA-10 SRAM available. Would those work?

Plus, my order from eBay for the Chinese ROM burner was mysteriously canceled overnight! Meaning, I now have to re-order another one at a premium and wait for it. Go figure.

 3) I definitely want to use this as a MIDI controller, as the keybed is just superb. Is there a modified BIOS with active sensing disabled? I thought I saw something like that in the forums. Hopefully the E! isn't toast as that would be nice just for that functionality as well.

I also wonder if anyone has had their E! EPROM go bad...which I could theoretically burn a replacement as well - which would solve everything if that's the issue.

 4) As a Mac consultant, I'm comfortable with creating a given computer set-up...so that part should be easy. My key issue would be about using SysEx to get past the initialization step...either as stock or with E! But first, I need to get it to boot and get to that point, right?

Thanks again, Grant - and all of you! Feel free to chime in as well. Great to meet you guys online here - and to see that the DX7 love is still out there. - Seth
