It looks like the fee is for one year for a premium account. It can be changed back to basic after the year.

Here is what the wiki page states :
The cost is $110 USD per year for a Premium account. This allows you to use the groups.io transfer agent. You can change back to Basic after the year if you wish.

That's a very generous offer, but I wonder if the group, and associated files hordes, would fit in the free 1GB?

I haven't seen DX_Files (it doesn't let me in), so I don't know how much is in there, or how much has been added recently, but it seems most files were added a while ago, when file storage was much more precious - so, it seems like there's a good chance it all fits in 1GB.  Given the maturity of the discussion, maybe there's not much more to add to that section?

The thing that bothers me is that once someone starts paying for the group to be hosted somewhere, the funds have to be found again every year, or the group dies.  That might be hard to guarantee.  If it can be hosted for free, that might actually be a better way to ensure it lives forever... or a larger fraction of forever.
