Here's what I see on my two TX802s:
* Pressing Voice Select shows the voices used in the current Performance.
* Pressing Voice Edit I or II allows one to edit a voice.
* Afterwards, pressing Voice select returns to the top-level Voices
page. If a voice has been modified, the selected voice will now
have a lower-case index (ex: a23 vs A23). Pressing Store/Compare at
that point will allow one to save the voice selected (by the arrow)
to the Internal (I) or Cartridge (C) bank -- if a cartridge is
installed -- along with an "Are You Sure?" message. After saving,
the voice will have an upper-case index.
* Banks A and B cannot be overwritten, as they are ROM based. New
sounds must be stored to Bank I or Bank C.
Are you seeing something different?

I just got a "new" TX802, and among other things decided to try
tweaking patches from the front panel.

All was (sort of) going well, until I tried to save one, and of
course lost my edits, first time. So, I referred to the manual,
which referred me to the page about storing voices with the Store
/ Compare button, rather than telling me how to do it from Voice
Edit mode.

The thing is, while editing a voice, the Store / Compare becomes
the Compare button - letting you listen to the previous version of
the patch. Pressing it a second time just returns you to edit
mode.

Pressing Voice Select instantly trashes my edits - but at least it
does it consistently.

Any clues? It seems the manual is useless, on this point. I'm
surprised I haven't read about this before, along with comments
about how relatively easy it is to edit it from the front panel.
