Music has all kinds of value.

it can be uplifting, healing, tell stories with important life lessons
to share, and much more.

the value isn't simply about how much it cost to produce, distribute,
market.

myself i'd like to see the word "free" removed or at least, challenged
in discussion about music

as

it isn't free - even the life lessons that many songs are about- cost,
and yes, heartbreak can be very costly, and i don't mean simply in
financial terms....

i think perhaps the real issue is about values.

and when it comes to music in this day and age - that is a very big subject.

because electronically, music can be shared in many ways that are
uncontrollable and replicate like viruses...

perhaps the best protection is that the first point of sharing occur
from a place where the artist and the music is valued.

and, therefore, supported.

if an artist has plenty of money, and can afford to give music away....

thats great

...but, unless there is a value added (do a good deed in return - pay it
forward, etc)..

I don't see a point....( did radiohead attach anything re: values to
their publicity thing?)

of course, anything that fosters a discussion about values and music is
a good thing.

and, it needs to be discussed more and in new ways.

cheers
