Specifically it was the Kai: Konton & Laz/Nakamura/Yamaki: Bass & Drum P-Vine Japan releases were tend to be hard to find as well as pricey that made me think of them being offered as downloads as well. The recordings were done in those cases. I also expected Oz would be around on many live dates, etc. I for one wouldn't be picky about their quality per se as far as mix/master, etc etc. However, I do see where rights/clearances (esp. a label release as in P-Vine vs. the same material being made available as download) could get complicated. Although with a solo show (Koyaanisqatsi), Material & MoD that should be less of an issue presumably.

This is something that was discussed in the past. Part of the limitation was that in order for it to be done 'right', there would need to be some time spent with the recordings (whether mixing, mastering or what have you) and that's something Bill didn't have time for. Which would leave it to someone like Bob Musso who also has a lot on his plate. In short though, nothing is ever off the table.

He certainly has the expertise & people around him to do so at a pretty low cost. How much could it cost to host more sound files on the site along with the official release ones? Especially given the relatively fewer official cd releases in recent years. A "Beat the Boots" type thing w/o the cost of their physically released. As is he only earned money from the individual shows & this would be a way to earn a little "extra" from having done them. Frisell & many others currently do this.
I could understand if he feels the live shows are "test grounds" or experiments that he'd rather not put out there but to my mind its a damn shame to have so much great Material only heard/seen by those present at the shows (or sometimes audience recordings). Unless you live in Japan or Europe there's not that many Laz live shows to get to!
Seems reasonable to me but what do I know?
