What's weird is I heard a (granted, small) clip of the newer 220 Volt and didn't hear a difference. Then again, I was listening for the volume dropouts, which are still there, and not for general clarity).
 

Is there any compendium of information on CD releases which have different versions of different sonic quality? 

 I would expect the SBM, Castle, Jive/Electro remasters to generally be better than the original CD releases, and I've heard the Esoteric releases are the best for the Pink Years.
 

 In some ways the original Encore CD sounds better than the remaster (cleaner but less bass presence), and the MCA version of Firestarter is supposed to sound better than other releases (I only have the MCA). The original TT8 is much better than TT8-R. TT1 is debateable between versions (R is more clear but loses some fullness and atmosphere).
 

 Are there other examples of which we should be aware?
