So... Bianca, Baumann, Johannes and, if they can find him, Chris Franke?
I asked on the Facebook TD group who gets the royalties or if this is just a cash grab by the label. Wouter told me to keep my comments to myself and bugger off, so I did.
The TD facebook group is beyond depressing anyway. Most of the folks there have never even heard of the Tree and people are too scared to talk about. People post excitedly about buying Nth generation bootlegs off eBay. People have already forgotten that, without the Tree, we would have NOTHING after Soundmill Navigator. The existence of the Tree led to Rockface, the 1986 US/UK double CD, and the smattering of other live releases (although nothing from the 70's).
Edgar is gone. Virgin Records is gone. I wish people everywhere could look upon the Tree as Grateful Dead fans look upon those who taped all those shows, rather than something dirty or unspeakable. :(

I did an A/B comparison of the new release with the T.Tree copy I had, and there was a modest improvement, I wouldn't discount it as "insignificant". As you say, the T.Tree was already pretty good to begin with in this instance.
The accompanying artwork and booklet and nicely produced with a lot of contemporary news materials, and more importantly, the band actually get royalties on this release, unlike the T.Tree bootleg.

Tree 30 Reims and Tree 13 Mannheim come already from excellent sources. Major increase in quality can't be expected. Especially because almost certainly no new (better) sources were used. If there is an improvement at all, it's insignificant.
