It is in the middle of a lot of action, so it is pretty hard to tell
exactly what is happening when it occurs.  I'll try to pin that down
tomorrow.  I find it odd that it generally happens after several hundred
medium-sized messages have passed through.  If I send tiny (one-frame) 
messages, I managed to send >5000 without incident before finally giving 
up on the test.  So it probably is a frame-related problem.

Meanwhile, I may have solved my memory leak, but this did nothing to solve 
the problem.
