   The best suggestion I have heard so far was from Darren, "base".

Let's get consensus on the name and I'll start the changes.  I'll take
care of the autoconf stuff, and I can hand-edit the .dsp files if that
is OK.

   If we are going to rename base I would like to do any other directory
   restructuring at the same time so we don't have to do this again for a
   while.

What other changes need to be made?
