According to the advanced message search feature, it appears that
Pat's last post here was 2 years ago.  it looks like Dave catches most
of the spammers; I only see maybe one spam a month on the list.  When
I do see one, I immediately ban the author and delete the message. 
There is a spam filter option in the group settings, and it is turned
on.  There is also a moderation option that is currently set to
"Unmoderated".  I assume the "New members" setting is what has been
mentioned in this thread.  That setting sounds like a good idea to me,
unless Pat and/or most of the other moderators are still against it.
