I replied to your e-mails, but it (the SMTP server) seemed to not like
them, and I thought that I would post the reply here for others.


It was quite a few years ago when I set mine up, but as I remember it was
not working for a while and then I saw a .conf file like mine (easy) and
put my info in (the name of my server... Octanews) and then pointed my
newsreader to 127.0.0.1 on port 119 and job done, it all worked.

I just found an installer for STunnel and run that and then told it to
start with windows (I dragged it into the start up file IIRC) and have
never done anything to it since.

The important thing you have to remember it that you want your newsreader
(or what ever) to go out of a local port and round and back into your
computer (the 127.0.0.1 bit or loopback as its called) so you can then run
the data thru another prog (STunnel) and then out thru the secure port
(563) and on to your news server as normal .

You have to set BNR to 127.0.0.1 (where I would put news.Octanews.com if
normal) on the port you put in the .conf file with the line 
accept = 127.0.0.1:119
so in other words it says 'accept' connections on local port 119 (it can
be any port you want but I left it at the normal NNTP port of 119 to save
me changing many other settings) and then connect than data to your news
server (are you going to use Octa ??? if so then use this line in the
.conf file (I have done this with my news server, you need to use yours,

connect = snews.octanews.com:563

and you should be ready to work.

Good luck... and if you have anymore problems just ask, I will get back to
you as soon as I can, but I dont check this group everyday.
