You know what it might be -- Are you seeing overviews?  It could be they 
just kill the overviews (headers) based on date, but allow Message-ID 
retrieval from all accounts.  I know that Giganews' retention caps did 
work like that at one point (although that might have changed)

I'll give Newshosting a shot in a month or so, I can drop my APN account 
down to the cheapo one and keep it for text and give Newshosting a shot 
-- My only complaint about APN is that I am limited to four connections, 
and it takes 3-4 to saturate my connection, so I run into problems when 
pulling text as well as using BNR.
