I agree with you Lenny. In this world we often pay for convenience and that's what it is. That's the hassle you refer to that we pay to avoid. Now granted, if I wasn't working or had little income then I would certainly go for many free servers. In fact, in the past I toyed around with using them first then a paid server as backup but while it worked it was the upkeep I didn't like. _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Evzen Polenka Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2007 5:01 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BNR] Re: RE: Re: Giganews Search Utility (was Re: BNR2 Search Utility) Lenny_Nero wrote: > Its a testing server (like most free servers) and needs to be worked on > every now and then this is the point that the nay-sayers miss when they > say free servers dont work. I fully understand that free servers are testing servers, thus are not always on... and I'm not complaining. But on the other hand that's exactly the point why I'm using paid servers - I don't have to worry about the server being on or off in the very moment I want to pull something from the usenet... I simply launch BNR and immediately start downloading. No searching for right-now-working servers, no waiting in the looong queue of users 'hammering' the server (), no waiting for slow downloads (that 30 KB/s is unacceptable for me)... It's nice to have something for free, but it has to be worth it for me. For example, I can be completely happy with GIMP, no need to buy Photoshop... But all that cons of free news servers usage are simply not worth for me, they don't ballance the only pro which is the price. I can make that 15 USD for paying my NSP in, say, one hour... so why would I spend that hour or even more by all that hassle related to free servers usage? I used to do all that in the past, but find it to be too annoying for me. -- Bye, Evzen [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] Important Addresses: Post message: [email protected] Group owner: [email protected] BNR homepage: http://www.bnr2.org/ Yahoo!
