Why does BNR3 hang up "Determining Missing Headers"?

Ver 14.7.448 sometimes stops dead "Determining Missing Headers". I quit 
and restart and all is fine. I'm just wondering what causes this. Seems 
like it happens when my DB approaches 1 gb. Any correlation?
