It took me a long time to come to the 35000 number and the same for the
grpdb on the computer I use that setting for, it was the least I found
that was still fast and kept all of the group list data the data, but I
only use one server to get my headers for he 14 odd that I pull bodies
from. FOR THE BEST SETTINGS ITS ALL DOWN TO YOUR OWN COMPUTER AND YOU TO

quite quick RAM to its own partition on a PATA 7200rpm hard drive, I have

But there is no point in doing the vacuum if you have "Don't check for
new/expired articles within range" checked because the db will not have
the expired article numbers logged and so can not remove them (say it out
loud "dont check for the expired, now find and remove the expired). I also
found that there could be problems with XHDR and only use Listgroup, but
then I only use one server for headers (overviews), I see no reason to
pull the same data from more than one server, it just makes the db grow
too fast. If you understand how NNTP works you will do the same, but I pay
for unlimited overviews (headers) from the most compleat server with the
best front end there is.

As for default_synchronous=on I did a lot of testing with off and on and
the only thing that off gets you is the need to re get/select everything
after a crash. Any time I feel BNR has a problem or slow down I can just
kill the process and re-start, open the groups I was getting from, set
mark for download (I have a filter that shows only the files marked for
download) and select all, open the proprieties un check the downloaded and
mark for download flags and then hit OK, with all the files still selected
mark for download and your BNRx download que is back exactly as it was
before the problem in less than a few minutes.

I have posted this info many times to this list/group and a simple search
via Yahoo or Gmane will find all of the info wanted, and the reason for
doing it.
