Re: BNR2 goes crazy and creates 25,000 tmp files in a few minutes

Well BNR2 has known database issues. As long as you use that one just be ready to periodically have to delete yoru database and re-download all headers. I've never seen the temp file problem you describe though and I've used BNR2 for years now.
