I personally don't think so unless you get another ISP. However, you can access the usenet through diferent usenet providers such as giganews, easynews etc

IE my ISp is XXX but because xxx has an extremely poor usenet service I use octonews and newshosting both are paid for services.

However there are a number of usenet services that are free but have very poor retention etc....http://www.readfreenews.net/ .......check this out for an example only.

alt.security. pgp ... is this just a text newsgroup?, if so then there may even be an usenet servicer that will allow you to download this for free.. You will have to do a little searching through google or yahoo. If this is a specialist group there may be a free usenet provider for it?????.

For paid servcies I highly recomend
http://www.newsgroupservers.net/
to see what is the current standing of many major usenet providers.

I have BNR2 and works fine for my needs.

Verizon is my ISP, I use their server (news.verizon. net) up till

recently for my newsgroups. Verizon recently removed all main

newsgroups except for 8. As a result, one of my newsgroups, such as

alt.security. pgp is now gone.

Can I use BNR2 to connect to Usenet in some way without going through

Verizon? If so, how do I do it?

When I first connected to the internet some years back on my very

first ISP, I recall connecting to usenet and got a list of thousands

of newsgroups to choose from. Is it possible to do it again?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thank you
