How much is "a good chunk"?
It's a rather under-average machine with 1,5 GB RAM, Windows XP and a 
lot of RAM eaten by Seamonkey and OpenOffice, so...

It was just an example, I have the same behavior with 100 MB files 
(a.b.hdtv).
If you give me an example of such post which was not divided to smaller 
files, I'll be happy to try it. BTW, who would do such thing as post 
entire movie in one file? That's definitely against the usenet "rules" 
(or at least good habits)...

Yep, for bigger downloads I usually use HellaNZB for the same reason - 
just download NZB and wait until everything is downloaded, checked, 
unpacked and ready ;-).
However, for some downloads I still use the traditional way - 
downloading headers and "browsing" them in BNR3.
