If I have to reboot my computer twice every day (once to go to the old OS, 
once to return to the new one), I'm going to throw the computer out and go

Seriously.  The point here is to make life _easier_.

For what it's worth for anybody who finds themselves in the same situation, 
BNR2 seems pretty solid and stable under wine* with a couple of exceptions:
(1) you can't get into the Options dialog.  So I did some manual editing of 
the ini file based on the one from my BNR2 Linux install.
(2) Opening groups is very slow.  I clocked one group with less than 100K 
articles at 45 seconds to open.  Once the group is open, though, it works 
speedily enough.
As I said originally, though, wine is essentially a workaround with little 
long-term value.  Sooner or later, BNR2 is going to age beyond the point of 
usefulness -- all it would take would be for something to come along and 
replace yEnc or for the NZB spec to get an update -- and then BNR2 would be 
pretty much useless even if it still runs.

*wine, for those who don't know, is a program that lets you run Windows 
programs on a Linux machine.  Strictly speaking, it's not an emulator, but you 
can think of it as one.
