Okay, I found ID 833 under data sources. It's for localhost "Fan Sensor -
fan3".

In this case "ucd/net - lmSensors - Fan Sensor".

The list of Data Templates does indeed include a template by that name,
but no script is mentioned.

I would have expected to find the relevant script mentioned under data
queries, where an entry for "ucd/net - lmSensors - Fan Sensors" is also
listed, but instead it just mentions a path to an xml file, which doesn't
seem very helpful.

I set the Poller Logging Level to DEBUG for a while and got some more
interesting information, like:

04/18/2013 06:55:02 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] Host[8] DS[833] WARNING:
Result from SERVER not valid. Partial Result: FATAL: No sensor dat
04/18/2013 06:55:02 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] Host[8] DS[833] SERVER: /usr/
share/cacti/site/scripts/ss_netsnmp_lmsensors.php ss_netsnmp_lmsensors
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1:public:::::::161:500 fan get sensorReading 7, output:
FATAL: No sensor data was returned from SNMP

That looks like something I can test:

~# php /usr/share/cacti/site/scripts/ss_netsnmp_lmsensors.php \
  ss_netsnmp_lmsensors xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1:public:::::::161:500 \
  fan get sensorReading 7
FATAL: No SNMP parameter bundle provided
~# _

That looks consistent, but unfortunately I also get this response for
commands that execute successfully according to Cacti's logs, so what am
I missing here?

Also, once I'm able to successfully execute these commands manually and
find out what it's doing wrong, how would I go about fixing it? Can I
look it up somewhere and edit the command?

Cheers,

Jaap
