Adding a data source to an existing script

So I have a data input script that is collecting data. I'd like to add an output to this script. In the past I've blown up any current data sources that rely on that script. I'm curious if there is a way to avoid this pitfall? Can I just add an additional output without ruining any current data source or is this a limitation with rdd?
