Well, it's strictly not needed, no. But I wanted to multiply the value
with 100 and with one data source the existing CDEF didn't look like
it would hurt, while getting the job done. I freely admit that this
shortcut is partly because I haven't really grasped CDEFs.

What I try to do is basically to take a value from 0 to 1, multiply it
by 100 and plot that. I have a script feeding the data, and the data
is a percentage, as a fraction, of the service utilization. Service
utilization percentage being what I want to plot.

Maybe I'm going at this from the wrong angle, but that's what I'm
trying to do.
