Nevertheless, a want to add a small note: Most software packages tend to suply the generated configure files with a tarball, as the problems with the autotools are known. Not everyone is willing to install a differnt version of automake/autoconf for every single program he wants to use. ;) Of course, if this tarball is meant as test for the autotools primarily, then this is something different.
