First take a backup of your cricket-config and cricket-data :-)

You need to edit the Defaults file (or somewhere) the new RRA definitions. They only get used when creating new RRDs (I think - can someone else confirm this?)

What you could do is create a subdirectory under cricket-config called something like "archive" etc.
Move your existing cricket-config into this directory (including Defaults). Then in your
cricket-data directory; do the same thing. Create a subdir "archive" (or whatever you called it under cricket-config).
And move everything under that subdir.

Caution: turn off the collector during this work. Otherwise it could recreate things wrong.

Then edit your Defaults file with the new 1 min polling RRA definitions - Please post them to the list. I'm sure people are interested.

Then you can recompile the config and startup the collector.

I don't think you need to change the grapher - see what things look like. If you want to change it, you can just adjust the stuff dealing with ranges.

Hi Alan,

I really hate to be a bother but I have one more questions for you regarding this. I've calculated the new RRA definitions, edited the crontab to poll at one minute intervals; however I've not changed the Defaults file under the cricket-config directory.

I want to now move to the new polling, but keep the old RRD graphs as historical data; how can I keep these graphs around and accessible? I have all the cricket-data RRD files but again, need to move it to like a "previous history" directory before the change.

Also, what file do I need to change to change the grapher?

Ernesto

The harder job is to create new rra definitions for 1 min resolution data points.
If you do this, you will loose all of the data you have collected so far.

To change the grapher, that's not so bad. You have to just change the values of the ranges in grapher.cgi. But it won't change the data.
I added a new range "half-week" to my grapher that shows three and a half days. It's handy for looking back over a three day weekend.

Now that we're on the subject, do you know how I can bring the polling time to 1 minute, 5 minutes, 5 minutes and 30 minutes for the daily,weekly,monthly and yearly graphs for all my graphs? I've looked for a global config file to do this but I can't find it.

Thanks,

did it work? It should be target-type not targe-type and it should be the type of target (just like the GigabitEthernet3/6 target entries. )
The values of mtargets are the target NAMEs.

examples

target interface1
    target-type = standard-interface
    short-desc = "blah blah blah"

target interface2
    target-type = standard-interface
    short-desc = "balh..."

target WHREN
    target-type = standard-interface
    mtargets = "interface1;interface2"
    mtarget-ops = sum()
or
    mtargets-ops = sum()

target WHREN
        mtargets = "GigabitEthernet3/6;GigabitEthernet3/3.2006-802.1Q vLAN subif"
        mtargets-ops = sum()
        targe-type = mtargets-ops
        short-desc    =    "Combined  Traffic on STM-16"
        long-desc    =    "Combined Traffic on STM-16"

It could also be mtarget-ops or mtargets-ops. There is some disagreement in the code as well.

Should the target type be: "sub-interface"?
I've specified the name to be something other than "all" and it didn't complain.

Thanks again for the prompt help!

copy an existing target.
change the name to "all" or something like that - the name doesn't matter that much.
Add the mtargets = and mtargets-ops = tags and that should do it.

Hi folks,

I'm looking to combine the values of three different interfaces into
one 'aggregate' graph showing the total traffic going across the
router. Does anyone have any docs or an idea on how to get this done?

Thanks,

Ernesto
