The suggestion I made was to write a script external to Cricket to
collect the information using using the net-snmp tools like snmpget.

If that's the strategy you want to try, read the Cricket documentation at:

   http://cricket.sourceforge.net/support/doc/reference.html

and search for "exec:" to read about how to create a data source with
an external script or program.
