connection failed - protocol error

Hi,  
   
 I've a running LDAP-Server, where I can't connect with 
 directory_administrator.  
 Manually editing with ldapsearch, ldapmodify does work - I can also connect

 and  
 read data with gq.  
   
 My slapd.conf on server123 has the following entries:  
  suffix "dc=test,dc=com"  
  rootdn "cn=Manager,dc=test,dc=com"  
  rootpw secret  
   
 When I configure directory_administrator with  
  profile name: test  
  server address: server123  
  search base: dc=test, dc=com  
  Connection DN(user name): cn=Manager, dc=finanzit, dc=com  
  Password for the DN: secret  
   
 I get an error message for the test connection "Connection failed -
protocol 
 error".  
   
 Any help would be appreciated,
