dnscache stopped working on Snow Leopard

I've happily run DJB DNS for years on my Mac, set up per
http://qmail.jms1.net/djbdns/osx.shtml. When I removed acceptance of
DHCP-supplied nameservers, I had problems in some internet cafes, and had to
manually add them from my iPhone... But the Snow Leopard restores accepting
them, and it turns out Leopard always checked the manually set nameserver
first, in out case 127.0.0.1, so there's no need to remove the DHCP-provided
ones.
In any case, with the upgrade to Snow Leopard, I see that my dnscache
stopped responding -- dig @localhost nyt.com, or anything else, just sits
there, and the log doesn't show any updates. svc -t /supervise/dnscache
updates status file... How can I diagnose this stuck behavior?

Cheers,
Alexy
