 No. Lots of people use them for lack of better alternatives.
 Think GNU gcc. I can't count how many programmers and sysadmins I have
heard complain about GNU gcc. But there's no real, widely-deployed,
alternative, because writing a C compiler is a lot of work. So people
make do with what they have. Same, maintaining a Unix distribution is
a lot of work, and only a serious organization can afford it. And they
have to focus on wide-deployability first and technical quality second.
I'm not blaming them in the least; just dispelling the myth that widely
used stuff is widely used because people think it's good.

 I'm not trying to convince anyone to throw away rpm/apt/etc.
 I said slashpackage could coexist with the FHS. Best of both worlds.

 And how am I going to access the dnscache program?
 /bin/dnscache? /usr/bin/dnscache? /sbin/dnscache? /usr/sbin/dnscache?
 Oh, nvm, I won't have to access it by hand, because there will be
wonderful System V init scripts doing it for me, such as
"start-stop-daemon dnscache". Oh yeah, great. I really can't wait.

 Yeah, we definitely should all use Microsoft Windows. So many people
do it, they certainly can't be wrong.
