while this is quite interesting to see, I don't think nature's
approach should be taken as an example of good software engineering.

The big difference between nature and software is that nature
(more precisely: evolution) *requires* low-level functions
to accidentally change their behaviour. If the change leads
to fatal malfunctions - so what, the individual dies, nobody cares.
If the change leads to better functions, evolution wins. Fine.

You definitely don't want to see fatal malfunctions in something
like the domain name system, though.
