I think we're going to need a bit more detail than this!

If you switch on query logging on the MySQL servers, can you see the
queries being made? What has named logged when starting up? Does it, in
fact, startup at all?

If you put it into debug mode (using -d 9) and run it in the foreground
(-f or -g), what does named tell you as it starts up?

So many questions :)
