Todd, thanks for the info. I thought that was an old package before  
dlz was added to bind9 source. I've only configured and compiled from  
bind9 sources before but that didn't work on rhel because of an  
incompatible openssl libcrypto.

I picked up my rpm sources here: http://people.redhat.com/atkac/bind/bind-9.6.0-2.P1.fc11.src.rpm

So I installed bind-sdb and it's working somewhat. Communication  
between bind and mysql is there, but bind is crashing.

If this list isn't the right place for this to continue I understand.
That said, here is the failure I'm getting:
