What about dhcp for the IP config stuff (ip, netmask and gateway), but a static 
tftp server and file name?  I am guessing I just need to remove most of the 
patch, but I would rather it gets done upstream by someone who knows what they 
are doing ;)

This would take care of the case where there is a dhcp server that doesn't have 
support for pxe (either the server can't or the admin wont).  not such a good 
idea for burning into a rom, but perfect for a floppy.
