Thanks Michael... At this point, the Wireshark trace is showing some very odd traffic going on -- communication to other VMWare guests that can't actually be happening unless VMWare is doing it on its own. I'm assuming Wireshark is confused and will be trying it again with debug stuff on so I can see what gPXE is trying to do. Wireshark is showing wierd TCP messages between the booting machine and other IP addresses, but there are no ARP attempts to translate those other addresses to MAC addresses. That is why I don't believe it. The trace looks very odd... It will probably take me a couple days to get to debugging again...
