Hello:

 

Please allow me to start by apologizing for my ignorance.  I am confident
that I am not nearly as knowledgeable as your average customer.  I am simply
a output device (Printer, Copier, Fax) sales person with a decent knowledge
of LAN and LAN Printing technologies trying to learn more about host
printing solutions and sell host printing technology and hardware to my
clients.

 

I was referred to Ethereal as a very good and free utility that would allow
me to capture print data-stream.  From this I have indirect access to a
group of people that can analyze the data stream and advise what kind of
printing the client is doing and then recommend a course of action to
designing a solution.

 

I have sued Ethereal to capture packets from a workstation that I sent a few
print jobs from which create Unix or AS400 print job.  The suspicion is the
environment is using IPDS to print but what I can't figure out from the
documentation or the application is how to filter just the print data from
all the other things that make Ethereal so powerful yet and again - way over
my head.

 

Could you please advise the best resource or way to proceed - all I want to
do is capture print data streams and then send them for analysis.

 

Can you please help.
