promiscuous mode in windows?

I'm trying to capture in promiscuous mode in Windows XP with an Intel 
PRO/100 VE network adapter (that's built into an IBM ThinkPad) and am 
having some difficulty.  Basically, I can't even see the traffic that 
I'm sending out / receiving when the "Capture packets in promiscuous 
mode" option is enabled.  I should, at minimum, be able to do this, 
shouldn't I?

If my 100mbit ethernet adapter just doesn't support promiscuous mode are 
there any PCMCIA ones that would support it?
