Everything I've been able to find today suggests that there have been 
one or two techniques proposed for buddy icons in Jabber, but it still 
seems quite unsettled.  There are mailing list messages from this month 
talking about an overhaul, so it doesn't seem like a good idea at this 
point.  I'll look into it some more.  If anyone can find some solid 
documentation for it or another client which does buddy icons over 
Jabber, it would be more appealing to me.
