running the EB-lite core

Hi, 

Where can I get the documentation of how to talk to the core?  Is there a simple command line test harness?  I'd really like to avoid getting into the qt client stuff because we are building an agent that will use the core only, so the gui is not useful...we'd just like to be able to see how to send simple commands to the core and receive incoming events.

BTW, I've seen a lot of questions that never seem to be answered about whether there is an eb-lite mailing list.  Anyone?
