Well, there's your problem.
You downloaded a version for Red Hat Linux 8.0, trust me, it isn't going
to work...  At least, that's how I interpret the filename.

You're running Solaris 8, you'll need a binary for that OS.
Unfortunately, a native binary doesn't exist, but there's source code,
and you can build it and install it in your home directory without root
privledges.

The procedure is the same for compilling & installing system wide, but
when you run configure, make sure you specify your home directory as the
prefix:

$ sh configure --prefix=$HOME

Then you can do the usual:
$ make all install

And all should be well.  Hope this helps.
