If this spawns a thread, and people want to keep it on both lists, then I'll 
approve crossposts from syllable-developer people for the duration of this 
thread. This is fine by me, although I'm not sure about the generally 
accepted practice on the syllable lists.

Now, to reply personally:
Congrats! The core itself is supposed to be pretty portable, although the 
autoconf worries surprise me - have you tried it with ABS? (alternative core 
build system, doesn't rely on automake). I also note you're using an old copy 
of eb-cmd. Newer stuff has been in the bleeding tree for a couple of days 
now, and I'm preparing for a new alpha.

As for the UI, what toolkits do syllable apps usually use? I'd beware of 
assuming that if a KHTML port has happened, ordinary Qt apps can follow - 
Apple managed to get KHTML into Safari, which runs on systems with no Qt 
discernable anywhere. The VB project sounds interesting, although I feel your 
pain trying to bludgeon it into working. Are you using 6.0 or .net?

In any case, nice work, and keep it up! General apologies to 
syllable-developer members for the frankly nasty website up there at the 
moment, it will get nicer very soon.
