this is required because libraries are plugins are linked in at run 
time (after the program starts).  Now, we could do this without libtool, 
but that would require writing separate pieces of code for linux, HP-UX, 
solaris, windows and others.  libtool provides an abstract interface to 
this.

Another thing... you shouldn't be using everybuddy.  either get eb-lite
(http://www.everybuddy.com/eb-lite/) or ayttm
(http://ayttm.sourceforge.net/).

Everybuddy as it was has passed on into the ether leaving behind 
memories and two heirs.
