Ha ha! I can't believe I missed that! Thank you, Alan!

One problem: That icon doesn't show up in the message view for ICQ (and 
Jabber?). Since I've (painstakingly) created buddy icons for all 
instances of my buddies on each and every service, I'd love to see an 
icon on both sides of the chat.

I suppose that's a feature request. :)

Also, I just downloaded the latest (v0.7) release of AdiumX, and it's 
pretty impressive. While I still prefer Fire, some of the address book 
integration (including grabbing buddy pictures from the address book!) 
and options for window appearance (especially a buddy list that 
vanishes when Adium is in the background) are very nice.
