Fire stubbornly won't connect. Help, please

I recently reformatted my hard drive, installed Panther and then copied over my Fire preferences. The program itself is up to date. My problem: It won't connect to any of my accounts (AIM, MSN and Yahoo), either manually or automatically. The program opens, but absolutely nothing, nada happens after that.
