IRC doesn't seem to work

First, I admit to knowing nothing about IRC, so this could easily be
something stupid I'm doing. Anyways, my company has an IRC server
running internally. I'm trying to connect to it using Fire, so I
create a new IRC account, enter all the requested info, click Save,
and then click the connect button. It seems to connect, as a new chat
window opens, I get a notice about service policies, etc., then an
amusing random quote, and the Console says:

3/30/04 7:09:18 PM - IRC - You are now officially online.
3/30/04 7:09:18 PM - IRC - Connected

However, any thing I type after that I get:

irc.myco.com did not receive previous message because of error.:
irc.myco.com is not available.

(irc.myco.com isn't the real name, but the same name shows up as I
entered when creating the account).

I'm using a ToT build from maybe a week ago on Panther with all the
updates, although I've tried this a number of times in the past, so
it's not something recent in either Fire or OS.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brian
