All of those items used to be (a long time ago) smaller and at the bottom of the window. It was universally decried as not modern mac-like - you might want to be careful here ... We moved them into the toolbar because that is where users (at the time) demanded that they be. Sticking them on the bottom means that no matter how the user sets up the window they have no control over those buttons and which show and don't.
