PAR files

When I was using an account for Usenet, some files posted whith PAR2 files. In case of some retrived file were corrupted or a peace of the file were missing, with the PAR files you can try to rebuild de original file. I don't see anybody using PAR files when they post files in Frost for example, is there any reason for not doing this? Comments? Suggestions?
