GNUnet just came onto my horizon and it something I want to promote
aimed at a cellulare network - existing hardware with a software change
or if one of the 5-currency-unit phone companies will let us know how to
flash their existing phones or will do a custom run of a certain quantity
with our own alternative software - working meshwise with no 
carrier/provider
dependence. It's probably good for SMS, possibly voice over short distances.

On-topic: A method that is working well for me is to open an issue on a 
forgejo instance
such as codeberg, and let interested people comment there, with someone(s)
editing the initial description to incorporate pearls from the comments.
It emails text of the first followup with a web link to the rest.
Real-time stuff like IRC has never worked for me.
Well, maybe when I was 20ish.

Off-topic I'd be happy to help in any areas of making GNUnet a working 
reality
