I have tried this approach: I gave him a list of a dozen of messages,
listing their numbers in my request. These messages are still there,
unchanged, despite he said he had done something.

I had done all this before even wrting my first warning here about this
site. Note that I noted the existence of the site only after someone spoke
about its exclusion on another mainling list (the Unicode list, whose
mirroring by gmane is now stopped, but still not filtered from the personal
email addresses collected). You can see it by yourself in the gmane.org
archives.

I had also seen similar problems related on other places before I wanted to
let you know about this, because I had never seen here any announcement that
the list would be mirrored.

The main problem with the gmane.org archive is that it allows ANYONE to
demand the mirroring any private mailing list, even if he is not authorized
to do so. The site policy just explains that the list MAY be configured to
hide the email addresses, but only the person that created this archive can
configure this. And there's no way to determine who created the archive, in
order to ask him to change this "preference".

In my opinion, this should not even be a question of preference: all
archives should hide the email addresses by default. Lars Magne can't
pretend that what we ask is impossible because it proposes the option, but
only to the one that created the archive! And the site policy says
absolutely nothing about the procedure to apply if a list is illegitimately
mirrored (even if the content of the list is completely private and
protected by copyright, which may not be the case I think from the GDF list
which was created to be "public" but still open only to subscribers whose
lists is restricted).

It is in general very impolite to cross-post from one list to another or to
other peoples without prior information. If this was admitted, in fact, it
would justify all those pesky bots running across the web to collect email
addresses (and then use them illegally to send spam directly or to sell
files of active addresses to "merchants" and spammers).
