I see at least one clear solution to that: Write your code community-based and 
always license it under the GPL, so you aren't a good target. 

Shooting you down could then result in your program being slashdotted and 
other developers taking up your work. 

Other interesting topics: 

- How can we beat download and video-sites like youtube? 

- Can we create community-sites similar to BitTorrent-trackers (for example 
using technology from http://freebase.be or http://bandnet.org )? We mainly 
need statistics and easy to use and adapt software, here. 

- Can we make Gnutella usable for every small personal download site? 
Different from BitTorrent, it doesn't need a dedicated script. A simple 
magnet with a link to a http source and another to a connect-cache like 
freebase would suffice.
