I have to pass that question on to Gregor, he better knows his ways in the
code.

I tested if Phex could carry the load with 99 UP2UP connections, and it
performed very well.
The test results are avaible online:
- http://wiki.phex.org/Phex_Performance

If Phex should have a more efficient implementation, just remember that it's
GPL, too :)

Data from there
---------------------

After 15 minutes online with 99 UP2UP connections:

* Heap Memory Useage: 27-51MiB
* Live Threads: 225
* Loaded Classes: 4,242
* CPU Useage: 2-3% with spikes to 10%.

After 5 hours online with 64 UP2UP connections but without GUI, sharing at
full speed:

* Heap Memory Useage: 15-27MiB
* Live Threads: 70 with some spikes to 150
* Loaded Classes: 2,432
* CPU Useage: 0.2% with some spikes to 5% and a few spikes to 10%

Besides: What I experienced is that Phex becomes slow when its internal QRT
grows in size to 512kB or above - it happens at about 7000 shared files. As
long as the QRT stays below 512kB, it's snappy, though, in UP as well as in
leaf mode.

What are your memory restraints?

Best wishes,
Arne
