That's a damn good question - and sadly none I can answer. I don't see it; and 
I won't go investigating before I see them in my connections :)

The last part is the only real risk I see :)

But that doesn't help in testing for the effects of the feature on a larger 
real-life network.

Which I see as a slightly suboptimal situation... 

There are some scientific papers around with ideas for more efficient search 
protocols which could be used in a single client and such, and it would be 
nice if it was possible to test these without affecting the whole network with 
a botched experiment.
